Heather Keizur, a jazz
vocalist who sings in both English and French, is emerging as one of
the most unique and gifted singers on the Northwest Jazz scene.
When asked why she sings in French, Heather says, "I grew up in Canada where I fell in love with the French language. It's so musical, it's beautiful to simply hear it spoken. Add that to the poignant melodies and lyrics written by greats like Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel, and I am compelled to sing these passionate songs."
Shades of Dalida, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Henri Salvador color Heather's latest CD, Under My Skin, a sultry, expressive, soothing, and romantic album with classic ballads, jazz standards and some authentic French chansons. Her first CD, J'ai Deux Amours, features beautiful melodies of love and longing, many sung in French and speaks to Heather's love of Edith Piaf, Blossom Dearie and Billie Holiday.
Born in San Jose, California, Heather grew up in British Columbia,
Canada where her passion for music and the French language began. Throughout her life, she has performed as a soloist, and with a variety of jazz bands, country and pop music duos, and in churches in Canada, Oregon, Washington and California. In 2008, she hit the vibrant Portland, Oregon jazz scene with her unique, timeless and bi-lingual style and is now a well-known and highly esteemed entertainer there.
She has sung with
some of the Northwest's premier jazz musicians, including
Steve Christofferson, Tom Grant, Vince Frates, Dave Captein, Dennis
Caiazza, and Ron Steen, as well as bay area pianist
David K Mathews who is currently touring with Santana and Seattle's Milo Petersen, formerly with Eartha Kitt.
Heather who earned an honor's degree in French at Portland State University
in 1992 is a certified and devoted Montessori teacher and the
proprietress of The Happy Children's Montessori in Hillsboro, Oregon.
She shares the joy of music and French with the children in her school
Tom Grant describes Heather in this way, "Whether singing in English or
French, this dazzling vocalist projects the inner beauty of herself and
the song she sings, straight to the heart of the listener."
